Most people who book a first Brazilian have spent longer worrying about it than the appointment takes. Here is what actually happens, without the coy language.
Before you come in
Let it grow to about a quarter of an inch. That is roughly two weeks. Shorter than that and the wax has nothing to grip, which means going over the same area repeatedly. Longer is fine, we will trim it at the start.
Exfoliate two or three days before, not the day of. Gentle exfoliation lifts dead skin so hair releases cleanly. Doing it the same morning leaves the skin sensitised.
Skip the caffeine if you can. It tightens pores. A large coffee immediately beforehand is not the preparation people think it is.
Tell us what you are using. If you are on Accutane, tretinoin, or any medical-grade actives, waxing is off the table and we will not do it. That is not us being difficult, it is that the skin will lift. Threading is the alternative for facial hair, and we will talk you through body options.
What the appointment is like
You are in a private room with a licensed specialist and the door closed. You undress from the waist down and lie on a covered table. Your specialist will tell you how to position yourself for each section. It is clinical, it is quick, and you will not be the most memorable thing that happens in that room today.
A Brazilian at Brazilia takes about twenty to thirty minutes for a first-timer, less once you are a regular. It is $69, the same at all four of our San Diego locations.
Does it hurt
Yes, in short bursts, and less than you are picturing. The most uncomfortable moments last a second or two each. Two things reduce it more than anything else: the skill of the person doing it, and doing it regularly. Consistent waxing means less hair grows back over time and what does regrow comes in finer and releases more easily.
If your skin is sensitive or reactive, ask about sugaring. Sugar paste is applied at body temperature and removed in the direction of hair growth, which a lot of people find gentler.
Afterwards
- No hot tubs, saunas, swimming pools or sunbeds for 24 hours.
- No exercise for the rest of the day if you can avoid it. Friction and sweat on freshly waxed skin is how irritation starts.
- Loose clothing that evening.
- Start exfoliating again after about three days, then keep it up. This is the single best thing you can do to prevent ingrown hairs.
When to come back
Every four to six weeks. That is not an upsell, it is the hair growth cycle. Waxing on schedule gets everything onto the same cycle, which is when it starts being fast and easy.
If you know you are going to keep it up, look at the packages before you book a second single appointment. Buy 4 Get 1 Free brings a Brazilian to $276 for five visits, and 1-Year Unlimited is $469.
